Children are caring little heroes. They are often much more observant than we might think at first. 3-year-old Eyas Tran from Hampton, New Hampshire, is a perfect example. If it weren’t for him, his neighbor probably wouldn’t have survived.

Here is a story about an adorable kid who saved a grandma who lives nearby. The video shows why it’s crucial to check up on the seniors in your community who live alone.

The newspapers kept piling up.

During the time when the coronavirus pandemic kept people in their homes, one family noticed something strange. Minh Tran would often take a brief walk with her two children. Their walking route passes by the house of 67-year-old Peggy Pilat-Roth.

Peggy is a dear friend of the Tran family, but they hadn’t seen her in a while. Minh’s son, Eyas, noticed a stack of newspapers on Peggy’s porch.

“There was one, two, three newspapers,” Eyas said in an interview with WBZ-TV.

Three untouched newspapers alerted the neighbors.

After realizing that no one had seen Peggy in quite a while, Minh first tried to contact her by phone. Mrs. Pilat-Roth wasn’t answering. Then Tran went to her door and knocked for some time.

Everyone was worried, and they called 911. The police arrived and entered the house. They found something frightening.

Peggy was trapped in the basement.

Somehow, Pilat-Roth accidentally trapped herself behind the emergency door in the basement. She didn’t pay attention when the door closed behind her and noticed the trouble when it was too late.

Police revealed that Peggy was found in a good mood, despite being locked for three days. “No bathroom, shower, no bed, nothing,” Pilar-Roth said. The grandma was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. Other than that, Peggy was fine and all thanks to little Eyas.

Police presented Eyas with a Lifesaving medal.

Police chief Richard Sawyer said:

“In these troubled times, it’s nice to see we have a good story to tell the folks. The 3-year-old boy is the hero in Hampton.”

Police also gave Eyas a Hampton police baseball hat, a T-shirt, and a set of toy emergency vehicles.

Peggy later said that she suspected that Eyas might notice the newspapers piling up. In addition to bringing her newspapers, Eyas also helps Peggy with her gardening. “We are buddies,” added Peggy in the interview.

Pilat-Roth went without food or water for three days.

How did Peggy survive? She explained she slept often. Apart from that, she would sometimes walk up and down the stairs to get some exercise. The woman was optimistic, and she believed that someone would come and get her in time.

Peggy also said she tried to listen for activities outside to know what time of day it was. When she heard the crowd in front of her house, Peggy began to bang a chain against some metal. First responders heard the noise and saved her.

Make sure to write down your neighbor’s full name and phone number. Call them sometimes, to see if everything’s fine, and to say hello. It will brighten up their day.

Moreover, get the phone number of your neighbor’s family member or closest friend. Of course, it would be nice to offer your name and number, too. Offer to help unload the groceries or mow the lawn. Your observations and helpful deeds can make a huge difference.
