For many people out there, Goth is considered to be someone who always wears black, who is likely sad and rude, without a sense of humor, and possibly violent.
However, none of this seems to be true. Goths are normal people just like everyone else out there, who just don’t enjoy wearing, listening to the music, or acting like them.
Goths don’t always wear black, they do have a sense of humor, they love to laugh, and they are often romantic people, who find joy in the darker things.
“That doesn’t mean Goths are evil, it just means they have a different perspective to many. And it also doesn’t mean Goths are unkind, violent or lacking in humour, in fact quite the opposite is true.”
Weronika Jachimowicz of Mattituck, NY, is a high school senior who wants to be a forensic pathologist. So far so good, sounds like an average teenager with plans about an academic future.
Well, not exactly. Weronika is not your typical teenager, wearing trendy jeans and T-shirts, and listening to pop music. She’s Goth and she totally shows it without any hesitation.

In fact, she showed up for her yearbook photo wearing Goth clothes and makeup.
The young girl is a style enthusiast who has always been attracted to Goth, but just didn’t know how to embrace this aspect of herself. Sadly, she spent a year off school, trying to find her identity, questioning herself and her choices, until she managed to accept who she really is and find the confidence to show it but don’t let the year off from school fool you. Weronika was voted Salutatorian of her class making her the second-highest ranked graduate of her graduating class.

Today, Weronika is really comfortable in her Goth style and totally rocks it. However, this hasn’t always been the case and the road to self-acceptance and inner peace has not been easy.
Weronika struggled with her mental health during her sophomore year and had to take time away from school. At that point, she felt that she wouldn’t be able to bounce back and pursue her dreams.

“I thought that I was never going to be able to get back on track with my academics,” she told TODAY. “It turned out to be quite the opposite. It motivated me to try even harder and it brought me to the position that I am in now. I’m very grateful for the fact that I was able to come this far,” said Weronika, who with an unweighted GPA of 97.27 percent, was right behind the valedictorian, Luke Altman.
The young girl said her family and boyfriend, who is her “biggest support system”, have helped her get to where she is today.
But, apart from a great and ode-to-diversity yearbook photo, Jachimowicz can be proud of herself for inspiring others to be their true selves no matter what others say or think.
“I’m happy I get to inspire others because that’s what people have done for me,” she explained. “I am so happy to be able to inspire others to have the self-confidence that it doesn’t matter what others think. You can be who you are and get great achievements while doing it.”
We are sure that Weronika’s dedication to biology will take her to the academic path and career she has always wanted. At the same time, she can still show off her on-fleek eyeliner and impressive clothes!
